Thank you Team Razors
This has to be one of the most incredible single launches we’ve ever done, ironically with one of the most emotional songs we’ve ever recorded.
I just want to say a massive THANK YOU for all the love and support with ‘Waiting for Christmas’. There’s been a ton of twist and turns, overwhelming moments of joy and a ton of great support from DJs, TV and Press. We’ve had our spirits lifted and been blown away, and had a ton of technical issues too – well you’ve made every bit of that amazing. No-one taught me how to release records, and there’s no major machine steering the wheel or funding the process. We do it cause we love it and basically your support has totally smashed it.
I know for a fact we’ve been chasing the tails of the UK Singles Chart all week. I saw the figures before we reported our sales. I knew then that we had a serious shot. I know it because your support has been HUGE. We’ve felt the love and support through the internet. You’ve bought downloads and CDs and even sold out one of our limited edition titles in the process and all for a great cause #TeamRedCross
When we launched the video and single, we did this knowing it would likely not chart, and I wrote about that in my blog. However I think I also underestimated how much everyone would like the song. I’m so humbled.
Despite all that though, we can’t yet compete with singles with 100,000+ sales. Many of who have been campaigning all year or have major label support and funding. The majority of artists releasing at Christmas probably recorded their records in June or July, if it’s not already been a household favourite for the last decade or more! ‘Waiting For Christmas’ is also not a novelty song, it comes straight from the heart. So you should be so proud of how far you have carried this record against all the odds. In just 1 month, you’ve taken ‘Waiting For Christmas’ from being a brand new tune to our Unofficial Christmas Number 1. You rocked it.
So all that said we are hoping dearly to be in the Independent Breakers Chart and possibly the Independent Singles Chart tomorrow – if we can maintain our position until midnight. No matter what the outcome of the chart though – we are so proud. You smashed it and continue to rock our worlds Team Razors. I know I speak for everyone when I say we are all incredibly grateful for your love and support.
When I started out promoting the record, I tried to explain what running a release feels like. The process is involved, and requires constant adaption. I’ve hardly had a minute to myself for over two months. Some things are constant though – for example if you are going to sell 100 copies or 1 million copies, you go through exactly the same process – which in itself is bizarre. Then you start running, to the absolute end. I’m now at the end of this run and I hardly noticed it is going to be Christmas tomorrow.
As a community, we’ve gone the whole way to making our voices heard and we continue to push back against the limiting beliefs we believe as facts. The voice of the industry that says ‘you can’t make a Christmas hit’, we actually just shut that voice down, and collectively sung over it and basically showed the music world what the true community spirit of Christmas looks like.
Big love to you. We are all wishing you a safe and happy holiday xx
